Nothings changed.... Go here, get a sub and a beverage. The wine selection is still huge and their cookies and peperoni bread are fantastic..... I would be so fat if I worked here.

There is nothing like the smell of Bommarito's Bakery, it will transcend you to a different world of glorious bread and delectable deserts. I have some of my most vivid memories of a child coming here to pick up a couple pizza's and then ordering cookies while waiting. I make it a habit to visit every time I am back home from Chicago. The round pizza is unique to the area, almost New York style. Although I miss the pepperoni they used years (they were tiny thicker cuts) they put out a quality pie with great toppings. The price is astonishingly low as well, its a steal. The subs are the best in town, a true Detroit Italian sub. You just can not put a value on the quality of sandwich these folks make. Although I am not Italian nor related in any way to the owners (heck they probably wouldn't recognize me from any other patron) I still feel like they are a part of my family. I grew up seeing the same kind and extremely helpful staff all my life in Bommarito's and that's what makes it so great. Its a family run business, and in a world of Dominos and Little Cesar's its great to have them around.

I have not had a bad thing from here. I have been getting the Pizza Dough almost every Friday for family night. I cannot make better!

Fresh meats, cheeses, and veggies. The dressing is homemade and delicious. And the bread? Best I've had on a sub. As a bonus, they have a fine selection of Italian groceries. Go for lunch and pick up some provisions for Pasta Pomodoro for your lady (or guy). Bommarito's is a lunch time favorite for East Siders. Well I live in Oakland County and I'll drive here for a sub. They are that good!

The pizza here is awesome. I like their unbaked pizza to take home and cook. The pepperoni rolls are sublime. Give them a try!

Been going here since i was about 5 to get those great subs. Everything in here is fantastic. I always would get a bucket of their lemon ice. Fantastic [;ace.

This is a cool place in town that is great for foodies and wino's, right in a good location. I recently had my first experience here, per fellow Yelper reccomendations. The parking lot near the front was packed so we just parked on the back -- no big deal. It is easier to get in and out anyway. You walk in and take a number and wait. We showed up at 5 pm on a Saturday so we waited about 30 minutes as it was packed. But we looked around and saw everything ...fresh rolls, pizza slices, pasta, hundreds of bottles of wine, scones, doughnuts, homemade pasta sauce and olive oil, fresh meats and cheeses, and many other sweets. I ordered the prosciutto and cheese sub. It comes on a sesame seed sub sandwich with either mild or hot peppers, lettuce, onions, tomato and your choice of dressing. It was $9 and was pretty good but not great as I had hoped. It was not as good as the prosciutto at Ventimiglia's, sadly, but it filled me up. (I don't think the employee making the sub actually had gloves on and that was mildly frightening. I think I have Ebola now. Just kidding...maybe.) The girlfriend got three slices of pizza: one cheese round slice, square pepperoni and a round feta and spinach pizza. She only really liked the cheese slice; I didn't try any of them besides the cheese, which was quite good. The best part was that a sub, three slices and an Arnold Palmer cost me less than $14. That was cool. There is so much to choose from and it's a cool place, kind of old fashioned and I like that. Don't see many places like it anymore. I wish the prosciutto was like the Ventimiglia's one, though, but oh well. What can you do. It's worth a stop in to check everything out and buy items at great values. The service is good and the ladies are very nice behind the counter.

One of the best Italian bakeries around. Their cannoli and eclairs are perfection. Great subs, very good pizza, breads and gelato. They also have a huge wine selection. The staff are fast, efficient and friendly. They are often busy but the line moves quick. Damn, I can't stop thinking about the eclairs...mmm...so good!

I drove from Troy on the recommendation to eat many things here, but mostly the Italian sub on their house baked bread. This is how you Bommarito. 1. Get a cannoli or 16 or die. 2. Never order the Italian Submarine Sandwich (skimpy meat $5.79) 3. Always order the Italian Sub Buster (extra meat $6.99). 4. Get angry and rage at all the good looking pizza if you like za. 5. Get out alive.

When going to a dinner party, I usually stop in Bommarito's and pick up some special treats for the host/hostess. They dig it. The bakery cookies are super fresh and delicious-just like homemade-with the peanut butter and coconut macaroons being my top favorites. Freshly baked loaves of Italian bread and rolls, rows and rows of Italian wines and groceries, best pizza in town, Italian subs, cannoli, gelato and just about anything else you could possibly want to make your tummy happy. Would you laugh at me if I told you Bommarito's is what keeps me living on the Eastside?

The perfect classic italian sub. Fresh breads, I love their burger buns, huge wine selection, baked goods, pizza, this place is the best in town.

Sweet potato gnocchi. Cassata cake. Freshly filled cannoli. ********** What a great place (major thanks to Lorna E for the tip)! I picked up the sweet potato gnocchi for a little late dinner: pair it with a Maple Cinnamon Sage Brown Butter sauce ala Giada De Laurentiis and you'll fall in love. My primary purpose in coming here was for cassata cake (bought last minute for a birthday party). What luck! They had some in stock, already made and ready to go. This cake was MASSIVE, even though only three layers. The cassata cake filling is the same filling used for the cannoli- delicious ricotta base, with chocolate mixed in. In all honestly, I prefer my cannoli filling plain, but in the cake it was lovely. The yellow cake itself was a little denser than I'd like, as I feel that the cake should be light and fluffy compared to the dense, almost custard cream of the filling. I was especially impressed by the chocolate CHUNKS pressed onto the iced sides of the cake. These weren't chocolate shavings, sprinkles, etc- they were massive chunks of chocolate, like someone broke up a candy bar. Decadent! The cannoli were everything James D said they were, plus way bigger than I expected. I started eating one in the parking lot, and didn't finish it until I was halfway back to Ferndale. The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars out of 5 is due to the harried attitude of some of counter service reps. Granted, the place was slammed- but c'mon, don't SIGH and eyeroll because I ordered two cannoli and you have to go fill them instead of cashing me out immediately after getting my cake from the back room. While that's certainly not bad enough to keep me from coming back, I was still pretty miffed at the attitude, especially after having to wait in line nearly 20 minutes to pick up something I had pre-ordered.

Delicious, very reasonably priced pizza. Haven't had a chance to try anything else yet, but I was VERY glad to find a place like this on this side of town. Grew up Downriver and missed Caprara Bakery.

So good. Eat everything. Get a cannoli or you'll be sorry. You'll be happier if you get a sub.

The three pizza deal for $14 is a terrific deal. And it is really good pie. The muffaletta is also excellent. Especially if you really really LOVE sesame seeds. Personally I think I will take some of them off - kinda much for me. And some good wine prices (and selection) too. Do yourself a favor. Since a third pizza is too much for just us we gave one to a guy at the top of the Moross off ramp soon after we got it. He was very grateful. Update 4/20/2013 - got 3 pizzas again and the guy at the westbound Moross offramp was pretty happy to get a hot pizza. I was happy to eat the pizza when I got home as well. The cheese is really good. If you get there maybe an hour or so before they close they have the day's unsold rolls, buns, pastries discounted. You can get 6 cinnamon rolls for a couple bucks. Not bad at all.

Best subs EVER!! You can get sweet or hot peppers fast service family owned. I have been going here my whole life so gooood.

  • Irwin F.

I was not impressed. For such amazing reviews - the sub was just average and missing taste. The pizza looked old sitting in the warm case. :( Also - the clerks had an uninterested attitude and it reflected that they could not care I was there.

My fiancé loves this place. We cannot drive past it without him stopping in for a Muffaletta. I don't care for it too much. We did order my son's first bday party sub from here. I scheduled a pick up time of 12 with guests arriving at 1. My fiancé left at 11:30 to drive to pick it up and didn't make it back until 1:15. Now, he may have stopped to eat his Muffaletta on the side of the road, but I doubt it. He stated that it was packed in there, and still had to take a number and wait at the counter. Now that seems a little silly to me - why would I schedule a pick up time if he can't pick it up then? He should have been able to just go to the cashier and pay and pick it up. Needless to say I am a fan just because it's a family owned bakery and my fiancé has been coming here for years.

The house of homemade everything! You take three steps in from the door and it's wine to the right, donuts and pastries to the left, frozen goodies to your 7 o'clock and fresh baked bread right in front of you. If you're stopping in for a quick lunch, then call in your order ahead of time and pick it up. Why? Because this place jumps and the two people in line ahead of me cleared the place out of everything from pizza slices, whole pizzas, cheese bread and they ordered subs. We realized it was going to be a 20 minute for just about everything as these two customers caught the place off guard. No big deal though, we just took a look around the store and decided to come back on another day. Great selection of Italian products from olive oil, canned tomatoes, capers, pickled products. Finally, I can get my anchovies, capers and giardiniera in larger quantities. Fair warning Bommarito Bakery: my next visit is business!

  • Eric H.

Never fails!!! The bacon and onion pizza is amazing!!! I have had pizza from everywhere, and Bommarito's crust is my all time favorite... It's not super doughy, or flavored, or over done... It's the perfect flavor with a little crunch and a little chew... Great flavor and price you can't go wrong here... If you have never tried their pizza do yourself a favor and get 2 for starters.

Flat out off the hook, insanely good Italian bakery and deli. The subs, the pizza, the desserts and baked goods - if I lived in the neighborhood, I'd drag my stove to the curb and never cook a home meal again. It's that freaking good!

  • Kelly A.

Best Italian bakery around. Their cannoli cannot be beat. They are the best I've ever had. Eclairs are perfection. Subs, pizza, gelato will have you hooked. This is an Eastside treasure. This place is always busy, but I don't mind the wait, it's worth it. Staff is efficient and super friendly. I adore this place! There isn't a bad thing one can say about Bommaritos! Prices are great! I urge anyone who has not experienced the fine taste of Bommaritos to get in your car and go splurge. Just make sure it's not a Monday, it's closed on Monday.

As I walked by the cooking area doors on the parking lot side, I saw a rather large man laying on the prep table with basketball shorts on. Rather than coming in and ordering a sub as planned, I decide to continue on my walk with my kids because that was kind of disgusting. I felt it necessary to call up there to explain to a manager why they missed out on my business today, she defended the cook. Apparently he was authorized to sleep on the prep table because he had woken up early that morning. She did promise me that the table would be cleaned after he woke up. Lol. It's a freaking table where you cook food on, you don't sleep on it, that's ridiculous

Okay I'll admit that this place is something special. I talked to a regular while I waited for my pizza and they definitely gave me the same vibe that I got from reading these other reviews. According to the gentleman I was talking to he was surprised that this place wasn't busier while we were talking. Has the "old east side" feel that I love so much, the service was good and there is a lot to take in at once. I think I may need to look around the next time I go in. I ordered a large pepperoni, small cheese bread, and two cannolis. Grand total $14 and change, what a deal! Got home, chowed down and I couldn't be happier. Everything was good, I can't gripe about this place. Pizza was cheesy, the pepperoni had good kick, and the sauce was really nice as well. The sauce is thinner than a lot of places and I really enjoyed that. Cheese bread was awesome! The flavor was spot on and there was no skimping on the cheese. The cannolis were really good (typically I only have cannolis when my grandma makes them but took a gamble here and it paid off). This place is solid you won't regret it!

Love, love , love Bommarito's!! It's a family tradition, love their fresh bread, delicious lemon ice, cookies, pizza. The staff is great! Family business, been going there since I was a kid, a tradition I pass along to my daughter! Great wine selection too!

Awesome local Italian Bakery. Subs made with fresh bread and Pizza by the slice (excellent spicy sauce) are great tasting and good value especially if you are on the run and in a hurry for lunch. My two fav cookies are the fig (made with real fig) and pine nut...not too sweet and just right. Be sure to grab a number off the counter if it is busy to get prompt service!

The straight up Italian sub is one of my favorites. Although, I have yet to go to Bommarito's in person, my boyfriend usually brings me back food when he works on that side of town, it has become one of my favorites and crave it often. Sometimes I do not get around to eating my sub until the day after he brings them home, this is even better when the flavors all melt together. Very filling! Cannoli's are a must for dessert!!

This place is my idea of heaven. I grew up a few blocks away, came here with my dad when I was little, and have brought my own family here. This is a place you get to know and be known. I've been eating their lemon ice for almost 40 years and it has never changed, always just a bit tart and so soft, perfect on a hot summer day. Their Italian cookies are always a feature for big family gatherings. However after trying cannoli in New York, Chicago, Rome, and Naples I must say that these are The Best. Walk in sometime....it just smells right. Like a cross between your Nona's kitchen and your favorite sweet shop, mouthwatering and homey with a touch of nostalgia.

This place is great! I think it's the best bakery in the Metro Detroit area, a throwback to the old days when a bakery actually pumped out fresh goods in house. Vintage interior with cool signage, down to earth staff, and wonderful smell when you hit the front door. Bommarito's is a refreshing place in a world full of Big Box Bakery's serving dullness and cardboard breads. Remember it's not really a restaurant but it has many hot carry-out items and salads. First time here? Then you must try the pizza and subs. The pizza (3 larges with one item for $14!) is the best in Metro Detroit. As close to real New York style as it comes in this area. The thin crust with crispy edges and gooey cheese was screaming good. No flash here, just a simple, honest quality product cooked right. There are other pizza offerings too, including a Sicilian sfinguini, terrasini and party trays. The Italian subs are the best I've had in the area. Forget Jared, Bommarito's completely blows away other sandwich shops. The secret? Nothing radical, just excellent quality meats and cheese, fresh veggies, smooth dressing on a perfectly proportioned fresh baked sesame sub roll wrapped in wax paper. There's many other sandwich offerings including muffaletta, calzones, and giant party subs. There are quality wines all over the place and a secret stash of even better wines that the owners can provide you assistance with. I haven't even spoken about the homemade breads, huge coffee cakes, cookies, cannola, cream puffs, gelate, homemade donuts, etc... I'll shut up, just go. Now.

This bakery is my go-to bakery. They have the best lemon ice and cookies. The BEST part of Bommarito though, is hands down, their SUBS!!!!! Oh my gosh, they have the best Italian sub that you will ever eat. I highly recommend. My whole family is Italian and has vey high standards when it comes to food and we all love the subs. Certain members of the staff are very interesting haha that's all I'm going to say. Definitely come here!

This is the real deal, amazing little authentic Italian bakery. The subs are awesome, made on fresh baked bread. The cannolis are delicious. The donuts were great too. Everything looked good. I wish there were more places like this! There was a line, but it moved quickly on a Friday at noon. Great place!!

Had this for the first time today and was not disappointed! Subs are the real deal, I had the Italian with fresh ingredients on tasty homemade bread, I couldn't have asked for anything more. I would venture to say this is one of the best cannoli I've ever had, a must try! Will definitely be back to try the pizza and spinach and feta roll.

  • Bernard H.

I was completely speechless when I walked in and seen the wide variety of pastries and bread they had to offer. I don't live on this side of town so I have never been in the store until recently. My sister frequently will bring subs and Cannoli's when she visits and fresh and yummy they are! I stopped in for the pizza while on this side of town and spicy pepperoni is amazing. The service was very friendly. Why would folks go to a big box when you have places like this?

this place is definitely a bakery however it is a take-out only dining spot as well. We come here for lunch frequently and love the Italian muffaletta. All of the staff here are amazing and the wine selection can't be found anywhere else. the hit list: 1) the muffaletta: best place for this, I never liked muffaleffa until this place. it has olive oil and not a chunky olive paste. it also has plenty of sharp provolone that pots this sandwich over the top 2) the pizza: they have different styles if you just want a single slice take out pizza for $1. Or you can make your own and get a large pizza for only $5.99, no place can match this quality and little caesars can go shoot themselves because they can't beat this price. 3) the sub sandwiches... oh the sub sandwiches are so amazing that we come by here weekly. 4) Italian garlic bread: this stuff is so amazing that I would come here even if it was all they sold. TLDR: come here if you want true Italian, it might as well have been straight out of a scene of the sopranos. its worth it

New favorite lunch spot. I made this account just to say this. There muffaletta is absolutely amazing and their pizza is known from all around. They only use high quality meats and cheeses so pretty much anything you can get there, including the subs, are high quality. The new york type pizza features thick cut pepperoni and they have a spicy type pizza that us unreal. I recomend this place to all my friends when they come in town!

Let me tell you a little story of VERY poor customer service at Bommarito Italian Bakery. About a year ago, I placed a $300. catering order and they overcharged me by $46.00. When I called to have them adjust that error, one of the owners (Rose) told me that she would issue a credit that I could use ANY TIME. I told her I live 45 minutes away and it probably would be a YEAR from then. She laughed and said I 'shouldn't worry, she and her sisters had owned the place since 1925 and they weren't going anywhere.' SO... I went in yesterday and (nicely) explained this to the gal at the counter. She told me "I am the OTHER sister honey- and I can't do a thing to help you a year later" I explained what her sister had said... and she flat out told me NO- and that as a consolation for their $46.00 error, she would give me a loaf of bread. So ya. ONE star- and THAT is a compliment.

Excellent pizza subs and baked goods! Pizza is very inexpensive and made fresh and tastes very fresh. I always bring a dozen or so of their cannolis to parties and people rave about them. They seriously change the conversations all night. I Feel bad for other people's desserts :D my fiancé loves their subs. Even when it's busy, I've never waited more than a minute or two for help. Great place!

A friend of mine back in the day got me hooked on cheap pizza pies here wrapped in paper. They were thin and addictive, the sub was decent too. When I started experimenting with wine I came here. I don't ever remember getting a canolli here. After reading some of the reviews I tried one. Oh wow. I can't believe I've come here all these years and never known. Like another reviewer said, these are some of the best I've ever had.

One of Michigan BEST!! The subs (Great), the breads and their sweets, can you say cannolis? The person that handles the wines know his stuff. One St Clair Shores wonders.

  • Jim H.

The overwhelming aroma of baked Italian bread and sesame seeds is forever engrained in my olfactory system...twice a day back and forth to St. Joan Of Arc catholic grade school I would smell this essence of pure Italian yum. Canolis, pizza, donuts, BREAD, sharp canadian cheddar, almereto cookies, Italian ices. Amazingly I remained thin despite all my childhood eating. Great wine and Italian condements selection too.

    (5)
  • Kelly S.

The best subs in possibly all of Michigan. All made fresh to order! The cannolis are the best I've ever had - also made to order, so there is no risk for soggy cannolis :) The cookies are great, the pizza is great, cannoli filled donuts (YES!) are great, donuts are great... you get the picture!

I had the vague recollection of an amazing Italian bakery that had the best made to order subs. A friend took me to this place after we graduated MSU in 2000. I never, ever forgot this place....and after reading many reviews on Yelp, I was pretty sure Bommaritos was the place I have been lamenting over for decades. It seems like one of those old school places rooted in tradition, that you could go to 10 years from now and nothing has or will change, but in an amazing way due to perfection and mastery. Yum! Hands down one of the best canolis I have ever had. And I am picky!!! Creamy filing, nice chunks of chocolate throughout. The shell was light, not dense at all but remained its crispness. Hand filled to order. The Italian sub was GREAT! Large, filing, quality Italian meats, provolone, banana peppers, oil/seasonings. LOVED the bread...tons of sesame seeds crisp on the outside chewy on the inside....remained firm even the next day when I ate my other half. There are few things worse than a soggy bottomed sandwich. The muffallta with spicy ham and cheese was great! I loved that bread. Sesame seeds on the top and bottom and I mean a ton! You have to love sesame, which I do. You take a number and wait for your turn. They crank everything out fast, so do not let a crowd intimidate you. They had homemade gelato and Alonsis...and a few others. i love Alonsi's spumoni....toasted almonds, candied fruit....yummmm....a great treat. Curious about the stunning casatta cake with canoli filing. They also had donuts with canoli filing. Their danishes looked amazing. Big as a pie. Fresh baked breads were great. Nice Italian Deli meats by the pound. A variety of Italian breaksticks by the pound. Super cool in my book, I love them...and find them a bit pricey in our suburban groceries. Some wine, pastas and other grocery items available. Wish I bought that chocolate covered nougat..... Ahhh, next time and trust me there will be a next time. Totally worth the trip from Auburn Hills and not to mention all the years of lamenting.

GREAT PIZZA , subs and bread. Service is questionable sometimes depending on who is waiting on you and the amount of people in the building, understandable. Make sure you grab a number when you walk in to stay in line. Definitely check this place out if you get a chance!!

Great deli & great subs. Make sure you order them XXL though, and get extra meat. They're a little skimpy stock, but beefed up they're delicious! The sfinguini is delicious as well. :-)

The best Italian cannoli and cookies you will ever have! I grew up in the neighborhood and still haven't found a bakery to compete-- and it has been over 40 years! One of the truly delicious memories from my childhood. Visiting Detroit, includes a stop at this bakery!

My grandpa loves this bakery so much that he drives all the way from Farmington, often scooping me up in Detroit on the way. As far back as I can remember, we've had a big platter of Bommarito's cannoli for Christmas Eve. The cannoli are made to order so they are never soggy. The filling is unreal; they make it the legit way with mascarpone (no icky pastry cream) and tons of flaky bits of chocolate that are crispy and then melt in your mouth. Another family favorite are the springerle (anise cookies good for dunking in wine, or just eating plain) which have caused more than a few fights after somebody got into someone else's springerle stash without asking. The texture of these cookies is incredible. They are both crispy and chewy and unlike any other cookie I've ever had. Sometimes my mom calls ahead to request a special batch of softer springerle (I prefer the crunchy ones myself) and they are happy to oblige. Another favorite of mine is the sfinciuni, a Sicilian style pizza with tomato-herb sauce, caramelized onions, olive oil, parmesan, and breadcrumbs. It is a greasy gut-bomb, but SO GOOD. You can buy day-old bags of sfinciuni and other baked goods for super cheap. I'm not sure how much they charge for pizza nowadays, but it used to be the absurdly cheap price of $10 for three large (and delicious) pizzas! The soft serve gelato is also really good; the chocolate one is super chocolatey and rich and not terribly sweet. The bread, of course, is excellent, and there's a decent selection of Italian grocery items and convenience items like chips and sodas. They also have wine in a range of prices, including some $3 options. I love Bommarito's and can't imagine Christmas without their cannoli and cookies. I guess it's good that it's far away enough that I don't want to go there all the time because I would probably exist on an exclusive diet of sfinciuni and cannoli and cinnamon buns.

This place has GREAT pizza, sandwiches and other baked goodies. Best bakery on the east side. Sweetheart is close second but they don't have pizza. Eastsiders grow up eating rotten apples off the ground so the post about gloveless hands doesn't bother me (although I've never seen it. It was in another post). A little salami juice on my cookie would make me feel at home. Their fresh sandwich bread is a treat for football Sunday Sammy's. Cut it yourself when you get home. It stay warm and moist and thickness counts (so says my girl).

Friendly and patient people You walk in and to your left you see rack of day old bread and pastries look to the right and there's a large wine selection father back beer and pop. Cramped asiles are really only wide enough for one person Today was my first day there as I recently moved to the neighborhood I ordered the pizza three cheese with spicy Italian sausage I believe this is a Sicilian style Bakery additionally I ordered some cannolis a Pizza roll some beer a coke and chips and soup A they also have deli meat with a good selection of Italian salami Got the pizza home and was thoroughly pleased real Italian pizza that is affordable. not too saucy not too cheesy 4 stars for the pizza! The cannolis are excellent You can buy pizza by the slice that looks like it's made recently I'm very very happy with this place and I think anybody that lives in this area knows about it already as the place was empty when I walked in and super crowded by the time I was finished ordering my food I think I will be spending a lot of time and money at this bakery

I cannot believe I've not reviewed my favorite bakery, shame shame shame on me. Where to start??? Well let's start with the doughnuts, if you've only gone to dunkin or hortons come here you'll never go back. The tastiest freshest doughnuts especially the chocolate glazed mmmmm doughnutssss. Next up is their subs, made to order and worth the wait during the lunch rush. If your in a hurry get some of their fresh pizza and try the Sinfuncina(?) baked Parmesan and onion OMG. The rounds are 3 for $12 and are only ok unless you order xtra sauce and well done then watch out they are great. And don't you dare forget the canoli or Cassata cake. Crap just gained 2 lbs. thinking of the place.

When you walk in this place, make sure you grab a number! I stood for about 5 minutes in what I thought was a line, only to find out I needed a number.. Thought there might have been a line to pick up food you've already ordered over the phone. If there was one, I didn't see it. The pizzas were good and very inexpensive. Unfortunately, they burned the edges pretty good on one of the pizzas. Fortunately, I do not eat the crust so it didn't bother me or my coworkers much. Overall taste and quality of the pizza was still good. Next time I travel up to the area, I will be trying the subs that everyone is raving about on here. Well, maybe a cannoli too.. Til' next time!

Holy crap! Holy crap! This place is so awesome. I called ahead and got one of the lovely thin-crust, cheese pizzas. Yummmmmmmmmmm. I only wish I lived closer, because it wasn't so hot when I finally got home. The cannolis, oh the cannolis!!! Beyond words. The bakery was replete with all sorts of canned and jarred Italian foods, and a whole lot of wine. Service was very good, so long as you take a number when you enter. I will be returning, and soon.

The baked goods, breads, pizza, subs, LEMON ICE are all fantastic. My Grandpa used to take me here as a kid and they have been around forever and its only because they have terrific products and are old fashioned. Love it!!!

Definitely old school, that's its charm. My guys love their subs with hot peppers. We buy their pizza dough and mozzarella and make pizzas on the grill. If you ever need an unusual ingredient for an Italian recipe, you can find it at Bommarito's. Great service.

Just saying "Bommarito" brings a smile to my face, a warm wave of nostalgia to my soul, and a deep craving for Italian lemon ice to my belly!! My best friend's Italian grandma lives in this neighborhood and would give us money to walk down to Bommarito's for lemon ice on hot summer days; she probably just wanted some peace and quiet! Walking into Bommarito's is like stepping into a Martin Scorsese gangster flick; you half expect to see Joe Pesci emerge from the back with a pompadour, drying his hands on his apron and talking about having just taken care of "dat ting." Yes, it's as authentically Italian American as you can get! The baked goods are beyond delish! If you get a cannoli, you may want to sit down when eating it because your knees will surely buckle otherwise. And the lemon ice is still the best I've ever had, 30 years after my friend and I clomped down Mack Ave in our Dr. Scholl's! Plus, lots of wine, a great selection of Italian groceries, pizza, and sandwiches made to order.

I am really looking forward to trying all sorts of things here. The pastries, pies, cakes, cookies looked crazy....my wife the sugar hound would pass out in here from sheer joy. Unfortunately like most of my reviews all I got was the pizza. I was headed to go see a band on the East side of the D and I checked Yelp to see if I could get some pizza someplace I've never been before the show and I found Bommarito and I am glad I checked it out. I showed up at 7:32 and asked for the large round special (5 BUCKS!!!) and was promptly told with an attitude that I was too late to order a carryout pizza and that they "shut that down at 7:30". I lurked over by the case with the slices and they looked GRIM and totally dead....consistent with a place that is trying to close up and get home, I get it. So, I was pretty bummed and was looking around trying to figure out my plan B when someone behind the counter handed me a pizza box and asked for $5.30. I didn't understand at first but it looks like they hooked me up after all. It is thin crust (I am a HUGE deep dish/Detroit style guy) and it was really really good, super fresh, obviously fresh and quality ingredients. The people who live close are completely spoiled because for 5 bones, this pie kicks the shit out of Lil Caesar's all day long. Definitely going back when I am over that way and I will definitely get my order in early!

KING o' the old-school bakeries! One look at the gorgeous vintage signage and you know you've hit gold. Sure enough-walk in and you're treated to a lively neighborhood joint that makes you feel like it's 1954. Be sure to take a number, or you'll be milling round for naught! Whilst you wait, peruse the wines, pasta, and sundries. You'll feel like the Willy Wonka kid as you take in the endless array of colorful treats in the cases! Cakes, pies, cookies galore! The best cannoli in town. Their subs are to die for and a steal for the price! Tasty pizzas-I often succumb to the lure of a spicy slice. Delicious breads, ladies calling you honey and giving you food, what more could ya want?

Family owned for YEARS, this place has the best homeade bread in town. Freshly baked pastries every day, and just about every type wine you can think of. You can also order pizza, or have a sub made if you please. Love the old fashioned atmostphere and the family portraits on the walls.

The pizza, subs, cannoli's, breads, etc...all the best in the world and how fortunate I am that this bakery has been a huge part of my life for the past 40+ years. We never eat pasta at home unless it is served with a loaf of their bread. Located between 8 and 9 mile Roads on Greater Mack. Two things...the first time we were in Italy, we stumbled into a bakery looking for some sweets and as soon as we stepped inside, we looked at each other and said, "Bommarito's". This little bakery in Italy smelled EXACTLY like Bommarito's and had the same cookies, baked goods, etc...- that's how authentic! Secondly, I travel to Mackinac Island frequently - am not allowed on the island unless I bring my friends some Bommarito's subs!!! Little secret: if you were looking for the thin style pizza with the hot pepperoni's (like they had years ago), just ask and for $1.00 more per pizza, your taste buds will be dancing! Hands down, Bommarito's is the simply the best!

One word: Cannoli. Twenty years ago I lived in Birmingham and would drive over to Bommarito's, buy a single Cannoli, sit in my car and eat it, and drive back. Yes, they're still that good!

Bommarito's was well-renowned for many years as the best italian bakery in town, but sorry...... I bought a dozen assorted traditional italian cookies from the bakery about a month ago and was very disappointed. Not fresh and not very tasty. Can't speak for the other selections but based on the other comments they seem to do a good job in the deli.

Best place for a party sub! Old school bakery at it's best.

Good, cheap sandwiches. The only reason I give it three stars is because I feel that if you aren't a regular they hate you. I'm not a greasy haired Italian, sorry. Update: Their pizza is phenomenal. I was wrong and wish to concede all prior notions. So cheap. So good. Try their pizza.

Best subs around! This is a family run business thats been around for generations. Their fresh baked bread is tough to match. When I lived in the area, I would stop in once a week at a minimum. Italian desserts, homemade pizza, sfinguini, deli meats and cheeses and a HUGE wine selection.
